SEX during pregnancy can be
scary, fun, uncomfortable, exciting,
a time for trying new things, and sometimes
Here's our top tips to help keep it
more on the POSITIVE side:
#1- SAFETY FIRST
A lot of people and their partners are really worried about the safety of their baby when having sex while pregnant. ALWAYS check with your doctor first, but most normal pregnancies it is good and safe to have sex while pregnant (and even beneficial). This typically (even if it is just a "yep, you're good") from the doctor can help ease your mind enough to hop in bed. So, as long as you are in care-provider clear, you can move on to the rest of the tips...
This holds true for every facet of your relationship, but it is even more true when talking about sex. Talk about your fears, talk about changes, talk about what feels good and what doesn't (faster/slower, harder/softer, etc), and be open to listen and take some feedback. Communication in the bedroom (or wherever you want to have sex) can be the best way to really enjoy it!
#3- BE PATIENT
If your like me, this is not exactly your forte. But being patient with yourself and your partner can be the difference between amazing sex and no sex. Pregnant women get tired, they have hormones racing... be patient and (here's looking at the partners) if they aren't in the mood don't push it! Some pregnant women have super high libido, while some have very low while pregnant; being patient and understanding (and going back to communication) is key.
#4- ROMANTIC IT UP
(pardon the pun)
During pregnancy distance between partners can be a real issue. Try something new, be spontaneous, do something sweet your partner would really love or appreciate... Romance can really help to keep that spark alive (or ignite it again), even if you're sitting on the bench still being patient.
#5- CHANGE UP THE POSITIONS
If you're tried and true positions during sex are just not cutting it with a belly in the way, try something new! Some of the very best during pregnancy are: spooning, laying side-by-side, pregnant one on top, edge of the bed (pregnant one on her back), and anything with entry from behind.
Even if you've never needed it before, sometimes during pregnancy bodies very much change. Water based lubes are safe to use and although (because they are absorbed by your body) they made need to be reapplied more often, they usually provide the easiest use and comfort.

If you've never experimented with sex toys before, pregnancy is a great time to try! They can provide intense stimulation without much effort at all. There's SO many options out there, get a few and try different things in different positions... you may never go back to not wanting to use them during foreplay and even during intercourse.
#8- ORAL SEX
Oral sex is safe and fun during pregnancy! Oral sex can be a great way to enjoy each other without actual penetration. The gag reflex can sometimes increase during pregnancy though, so be careful and as I've said many times before: communicate!
*DO NOT HAVE YOUR PARTNER BLOW INTO YOUR VAGINA (this can cause serious issues)
#9- PLAY A GAME
Yes, there are sex games! And they can be an absolute blast (once again, pardon the pun). A quick google search will bring you all sorts of ideas on household items to mix it up, even if you don't purchase a physical game.
#10- HAVE FUN!!!!
Sex is and can be SO fun! Laugh things off... sometimes CRAZY things happen (like farting, YES it happens, haha). Get comfortable and try to enjoy the pregnant body! (Even if sometimes it feels so uncomfortable)
