Picking a name is important.
Like something your kid will have to live with for the rest of their lives
(unless they go through some effort in the court system).
Names these days seem to stem from uniqueness, weird spellings,
and trying to come up with the oldest one you can think of.
All of which are fantastic,
as long as 5 other people on your block didn't have the same idea, right?
Whether you're just starting out or have to narrowed down to a couple;
we've put together a little checklist of sorts
to help you pick the perfect name for your little one:
1- Do you want something unique or not?
Does that matter to you?
Do you want you child to be able to go to one of those name things
and actually find their name?
2- Does it have any significance?
Is it a family name?
(Maybe they'll be Regenold George Smith III)
Does it mean "one who roars"?
Is having something meaningful important to you?
This is one people forget pretty often.
Have you thought about the initials and what they might stand for?
Like TP (hello toilet paper kid) or KFC (like the chicken place)
Sometimes this also may be why you do name a kid something.
4- Nicknames and Short Versions
Have you thought about how long the name is?
Do you like the shortened versions (because many people will shorten longer names)?
Or perhaps a short name you like will then bring you to a longer name.
Is it something that you or your child will be correcting people on forever?
If you're cool with that, okay, but always keep in mind your child will be going to school one day and correcting everyone all the time can get quite frustrating.
6- Do you have other children?
How does the name fit into the family?
Does it roll off the tongue when you are at your wits end and need to say all the kids names quickly together?
Or perhaps you are going for a rhyming thing or a first letter same thing.
7- Is it famous?
Is it in a TV program, or perhaps a character from your favorite book?
Maybe that's where you could find some inspiration or maybe that's a reason you don't want to name your kid "Bella" (Twilight craze anyone?)
8- Will THEY like it?
Is this like a name that is totally you, but maybe not totally anyone else?
Think of your child as an adult;
is this a name they will still be proud to say and introduce themselves as?
Picking something this important is never easy.
Even if you decide to wait until they are born,
keeping these few things in mind can make a huge difference in
at least getting it down to the short list.
